Appeal after arson attack in Whitehead

Police are appealing for information following a report of an arson attack at a house in the Hillside Park area of Whitehead last night (Wednesday).

Shortly before 10.50pm police received a report that an accelerant had been put through the letterbox of the property and a rag was inserted and set alight.

It is understood there were two adults and two children in the house at the time.

Police added that no one was injured during the incident; however, the occupants were very badly shaken.

Inspector Martin Ruddy said: “I would appeal to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information to contact CID at Newtownabbey on the non-emergency number 101.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
