Appeal after black ducks go missing

A KILWAUGHTER woman has told of her "devastation" after thieves apparently snatched nine black ducks from her family's farm in the run-up to Christmas.

Elizabeth Gingles, of Deerpark Road, came home one evening and was shocked to discover that the ducks were missing from their field. So far, the only trace of the animals has been some feathers found in a nearby field.

“We think that the ducks were taken so they could be used at Christmas, “ she said. “They were beautiful, pure bred ducks and it is awful to think what they must have went through. The whole thing has left me very distressed.”

Elizabeth was driving home on the evening of Thursday, December 17 when she noticed one of her black ducks lying dead on the road not far from her house.

She said: “I drove home to park the car and by the time I had walked back to pick up the duck, it had disappeared. It must have been hit by a car after escaping from the thieves and they then came back to collect it.”

Elizabeth is convinced that the thieves must have been staking out the farm in the run up to the theft. “Someone had obviously been watching the house and they struck when they knew no one was at home,” she added.

Elizabeth is now appealing for information to help her find out what happened. She can be contacted on 077 3275 0583.
