Appeal after car theft inMagheralave

A car stolen from the Magheralave area of Lisburn was involved in a number of incidents in Glengormley, Dunmurry and North Belfast.

The grey Ford Focus, which had been parked in the driveway of the house, was stolen on October 26, while the owner was asleep, some time between 2am and 5am. Burglars broke into a house, stole the car keys and then the car.

Bank cars which were also stolen were later used at a cash machine on the Lagmore Service Station on the Stewartstown Road.

Detective Sergeant Christopher Millar of Lisburn CID said: “On October 28 around 3pm, police received a report that a vehicle like the one that had been stolen was seen in the Glengormley area.

“It is also believed that a grey Ford Focus was involved in a road traffic collision with a stationary unoccupied car at Glengormley Park just before 3.30pm.

“The car did not stop and was seen heading in the direction of the Antrim Road.

“Shortly after this incident, police stopped the car on the Cavehill Road in north Belfast and two males were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including vehicle theft, possession of an offensive weapon and going equipped for theft.”

Police are keen to trace the cars its subsequent movements before it was stopped in North Belfast on October 28.

Anyone who saw a grey Ford Focus with a number of males on board, driving erratically or acting suspiciously, in the area of Lisburn, Dunmurry or north Belfast between October 26 and 28 is asked to contact Lisburn police on the non-emergency number 101. Both males were later released on bail.
