Appeal after Orange hall damaged

Ulster Unionist councillor Mark McKinty has appealed for information after slight damage was caused to Cairncastle Orange Hall last week.

A large window was broken at the hall some time over the New Year period, between December 31 and January 2.

“I know that the vast majority of the local community will join with me in rejecting such activities as part of a modern society,” said the deputy mayor.

Cllr McKinty, who is also the District Secretary for Larne District LOL No 1, stated: “There is no justification for anyone to attack the property of another person or organisation. Orange halls such as this have provided a great service to rural communities for many years, often being the only venue for community events in the area. Members of Cairncastle LOL 692 and their supporters have worked hard to make their hall fit for purpose, and I am thankful that only relatively minor damage was caused.

“We must all respect each other’s culture, and stand united against those who seek to raise tensions and cause damage to our community.

“I would appeal to anyone with any information, or who notices suspicious activity, to contact the police immediately on 0845 600 8000, or report anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
