Appeal after pipe bomb is found in Garvagh

Police in Coleraine attended a report of a suspicious object found at residential premises at the Glebeview Park area of Garvagh on Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly after 1:50pm, it was reported that an object was found in the area.

ATO were tasked to the scene, and the object is described as a partially exploded pipe bomb.

The object has been taken away for further forensic examinations.

At this stage, police believe the object may have been left near a house in the area. Enquiries are continuing.

Police would like to appeal to anyone who has any information or who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact CID at Coleraine Police Station on 0845 600 8000. Or alternatively, if someone would like to pass on their information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

DUP MLA Adrian McQuillan has condemned the incident. He told The Times: “This incident caused alarm in the Garvagh area. Thankfully the device did not harm anyone.” He urged anyone with information to contact the police.
