Appeal for information after burglary

Detectives in Strand Road are appealing for information following the report of a house burglary in the Fortfield Avenue area of Shantallow.

All valuables including jewellery should be indelibly marked with the house number and post code so that items will be more difficult to sell. Jewellery should be properly valued and itemised for insurance purposes, photographed against a ruler for easy identification and placed in a safe, secured to the fabric of the building.

Ensure all windows and doors are locked and keep presents out of view even when you are at home. Never, ever let a stranger enter your home unless you are 100% satisfied that they are who they claim to be.When the house is empty use timer switches to activate lights, TV or radio, avoid carrying cash, never walk home alone and always use the Quick Check Scheme to verify a callers identity 0800 013 22 90.

Don’t make life too easy for criminals. Leaving doors and windows open and leaving gifts and other valuables in our cars is too great a temptation for these criminals to resist. Always be mindful of your security and take appropriate crime prevention measures.
