Appeal for information over '˜hoax' object in Carrickfergus

The PSNI have appealed for information after a suspicious object discovered in Carrickfergus at the weekend was declared to be a hoax.

Police were in attendance at Rockfergus Avenue on Saturday morning following the discovery.

The route was closed to traffic at the junction of Oakfield Drive and a number of homes in the area were evacuated.

The object was examined ay ATO and declared an “elaborate hoax”, according to PSNI; it was later removed for further examination.

Rockfergus Avenue reopened to traffic on Saturday afternoon and residents were allowed to return to their homes.

Inspector Martin Ruddy is appealing for anyone with any information about the incident to contact detectives in Larne Police Station quoting reference number 378 13/08/16.
