Appeal from the
police about assault on teenage woman

Detectives investigating an assault in the Lisburn area are making an appeal for a potential significant witness who travelled with the victim prior to the attack to come forward.

On Tuesday September 16, at 1.30am a 19-year-old woman got into a taxi at Lower Crescent, south Belfast and was taken to Carr Road where an assault took place.

Police believe that a second passenger was in the car for a period of time after the taxi left Lower Crescent.

Detective Sergeant Gary Chambers said this second passenger may hold information that is vital to the police enquiry.

“We would like this man to come forward and describe the events that took place between the taxi making its pick up and being dropped off at his final destination which we believe was before the attack at Carr Road,” said the Detective Sergeant.

“He could help officers determine exactly what happened prior to the attack.”

He continued: “The victim was left abandoned in a dark and isolated area very far from where she had asked to be taken.

“This was a very frightening ordeal for her but she managed to get to a house and ask for help around 03.40am.

Detective Sergeant Chambers concluded: “I am appealing directly to this second passenger to contact detectives on the non emergency number 101 where he can quote the reference number 99160914. Please tell us what you know.”
