Apply for your firework licence for Halloween

LOCAL people are being reminded that if they’re planning to purchase fireworks, they must obtain a firework licence.

It is a legal requirement to have a licence to buy, sell or use fireworks. Anyone wanting to use fireworks over the Halloween period must submit their application to the Department of Justice no later than October 23.

Fireworks are a fun part of Halloween but everyone should be aware that those who want to enjoy fireworks over Halloween must have a valid licence. The purchase, or use, of fireworks without a licence is an offence. You can ensure you have a safe and fun Halloween by applying for your licence now,” said Justice Minister David Ford.

“I appeal to parents and retailers to act responsibly, comply with the law and use fireworks safely to help reduce firework injuries and ensure Halloween is an enjoyable time for everyone,” he added.

Licence applications and a list of retailers licensed to sell fireworks are available online at www.nidirect.gov.uk/fireworks. Applications are also available by telephoning 0300 200 7881.
