Appointment complied with the rules

THE appointment of Danny McSorley - head of Omagh District Council - as temporary stand-in for the Chief Executive of Strabane District Council, Philip Faithful, complied with the appropriate guidelines, according to Local Government Minister Alex Attwood.

DUP MLA Gregory Campbell asked the Minister whether he could confirm the decision by Strabane Council to appoint a temporary replacement for Mr Faithful out in accordance with the appropriate guidelines.

Mr Attwood commented: “Yes, the decision was carried out in accordance with the appropriate guidelines and endorsed by the Local Government Staff Commission which has a related statutory responsibility.”

The Omagh chief was recently appointed as interim chief executive for Strabane District Council, as the incumbent Philip Faithfull, remained absent on sick leave.
