Apprentice Boys Parade detail

THE annual Apprentice Boys of Derry parade will take place on Saturday, August 13.

There will be four smaller parades in the morning prior to the main parade, which starts at 12.30pm approximately.

Police expect 15,000 people and 140 bands to attend; this is the largest loyal order parade in Northern Ireland.

Between 9am and 9.15am: Two bands and supporters will parade the Fountain estate, Kennedy Street, Kennedy Place, Hawkin Street, London Street, and society Street.

Then at 9.30am: The parent clubs with 9 bands will parade the walls as follows: Society Street, City Walls (Anti Clockwise) Society Street, Bishop Street, the Diamond (Wreath laying at the memorial), Ferryquay Street, Pump Street and into St Columb’s for the church service.

At 11.30am: One band will parade The Fountain Estate, Wapping Lane, Carlisle Square, Carlisle Road, Ferryquay Street, The Diamond, Bishop Street, London Street and Artillery Street to await the main parade.

At 11.45am: One band, officers of the governing committee and a drama group will parade from St Columb’s to the pageant in Carlisle Square via London Street, Hawkin Street and Carlisle Road. A large firework fired from a boat on the Foyle to symbolise the breaking of the boom will signal the start of the main parade.

At 12.30pm: The main parade, which takes 2 1/2 hours, commences from Duke Street to Craigavon Bridge, Carlisle Road, Ferryquay Street, The Diamond, Bishop Street, London Street, Hawkin Street, Kennedy Street, Wapping Lane, Abercorn Road, Carlisle Square, Craigavon Bridge, Spencer Road, Dungiven Road, Dennet Gardens, Sheskin Gardens, Bann Drive, Finn Gardens, Mourne Drive, Dennet Gardens, Dungiven Road, Glendermott Road Bonds Street and May Street for dispersal.

at 4.30pm: Parent clubs return to the Memorial Hall via: May Street, Bonds Street, Dungiven Road, Clooney Terrace, Spencer Road, Craigavon Bridge Carlisle Road Ferryquay Street, The Diamond, Bishop Street, Palace Street and Society Street. On dispersal the William King memorial flute band will parade: Society Street, London Street, Hawkin Street, Kennedy Street and The Fountain Estate.
