Apprentice Michelle engineers awards success

A BALLYMENA apprentice has been recognised at Northern Ireland's Apprentice of the Year Awards 2010, being shortlisted for the Most Promising 1st Year Apprentice award at a glittering ceremony in Belfast's Europa Hotel.

Michelle is employed at Wrightbus in Ballymena where she is following an apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacturing. She joined Wrightbus from a catering background but has fitted seamlessly into this very different environment, where she has been assembling and manufacturing double deck buses.

In the training she receives through Seven Towers Training, Michelle has shown dedication to both her practical and theoretical studies and has proved to be an example to other, younger students. She is now on her way to completing her Level 2 qualifications and it is anticipated she has the potential to progress well beyond the Level 3 requirement.

Congratulating Michelle on her achievement, Employment and Learning Minister, Sir Reg Empey said: “The Apprenticeships message is a simple one. For trainees, the programme can offer a route to employment through the development of meaningful and relevant skills. For employers, a skilled, highly motivated workforce gives your business the competitive edge that is vital to success in today’s marketplace. Now, more than ever, we must remain committed to raising the collective skills levels upon which our future prosperity depends.”
