Apprentice show winner taught GCSE history by local teacher

The reason is that Melanie Dougherty, formerly O’Neill, is a teacher at Foyle College and she recalls with satisfaction having taught the young Leah Totton GCSE history.

Melanie, who has been at Foyle for ten years, described Leah as a lovely, glamorous, confident and outgoing pupil.

“She was undoubtedly a very bright girl and when she won The Apprentice, the school was naturally delighted. Our Head of Careers Mr. Ken Thatcher was interviewed and that led us to think there’s an obvious choice for our prize day guest speaker in September,” Melanie told the Times.

Melanie added: “I’m sure she got an A* in history and then she went on to do medicine, but there was no doubting her academic ability.”

As winner of the popular programme, Leah scooped a £250,000 investment for her cosmetic procedures business.

The 25-year-old triumphed over Luisa Zissman who had pitched an online wholesale baking supplies business.

Dr Totton plans to offer anti-ageing skin treatments, including chemical peels and dermal fillers, at a chain of clinics where she hopes to raise the standards of the beauty industry with her medical credentials.
