Approval granted for new housing in Greenisland

Speaking at a meeting of the committee last week, senior planner Denise Kerr said that the principle of residential development on the site was acceptable, as the proposal was part of a much larger housing zoning and that it was in keeping with the character of the area.

The majority of dwellings proposed were semi detached and detached and were predominantly two-storey, she added.

There were no objections from statutory consultees but the application attracted one letter of objection and one petition with 14 signatures, which she indicated were mainly from neighbouring properties in Shannagh Park.

Ms Kerr recommended approval of the application which was welcomed by a spokesperson for the applicant.

He said the application was for a high quality, low density development and that it was “essentially an extension of the successful Hartley Hall development” .

He also said he believed the proposal “kept a good separation from Shannagh Park”.

He pointed out that all consultees “are content” with the application which, he stated, represented an investment of £10million.
