£14,000 stolen in cash in transit theft

Previous court hearings regarding a man alleged to have been part of a gang which carried out the raid in Coleraine last summer said approximately £10,000 was stolen when a gun was placed against the back of a security guard’s leg.

However, Coleraine Magistrates Court has now been told the amount taken was £14,000.

26-year-old Jason Kennedy, of Drumtarsey Road in Coleraine’s Heights area, is charged with robbing a security firm and with possessing a firearm/imitation firearm with intent to commit robbery.

His case was adjourned to April.

* A Coleraine man has been fined £150 for indecent behaviour after he went to the toilet in a public area where men and women were present nearby in Portrush at Christmas time.

Dean Michael Murray (21), an apprentice plumber of Ashdale, had the offence detected at Main Street on December 28, Coleraine Magistrates Court was told.

Police on mobile patrol spotted him and a defence solicitor said the defendant had gone to the toilet outside when he was intoxicated and wished to apologise.

* Police spotted two men in an alleyway at one o’clock in the afternoon and when they asked what the duo were doing, one said: “Just having a wee smoke and a joint”.

Sean Neil Philip Owens (31), of Hawthorn Place, Coleraine, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court for sentencing on charges of supplying cannabis and possession of the drug arising out of the incident on January 6 this year.

District Judge Mark Hamill fined Owens £75 on the possession charge and gave him a one year conditional discharge on the supplying charge when he accepted it was “supplying in the sense of sharing”.
