The 500m resurfacing works extend from Pennyburn Roundabout to Racecourse Road and will include work on some of the adjacent footways. It will start on Monday, June 27 and finish on August 19.

“This significant investment will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the Buncrana Road and address ongoing maintenance problems associated with the road,” the Minister said.

A one-way lane closure between 09.30am to 6pm will be in operation for traffic travelling into the city. A diversion route via Skeoge Road, Madam’s Bank Road and Culmore Road will be signposted. A secondary diversion via the Racecourse Road and Greenhaw Road will also be available.

Normal access for city bound traffic will be available prior to 9.30am.

A full road closure will be required to enable the final surface layer to be laid on Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7 and Saturday and Sunday, August 13 and 14. The road will be closed from 8am to 10pm. Measures will be put in place to accommodate those attending local places of worship on the Sundays.

The above planned closures are subject to favourable weather conditions and Transport NI will keep the public informed of any change.
