£20m spent trying to get us to give up the fags in 5 years
The health authorities have spent £20m trying to get us to give up the fags over the past five years, it's been revealed.
The Public Health Agency (PHA), outlining the expenditure in response to a Freedom of Information request, revealed a total smoking cessation spend of £19,262,583 from 2011/12 to 2015/16 across Northern Ireland.
An anti-smoking campaign cost £1,852,348; regional expenditure on support costs, payments to pharmacists and other providers for nicotine replacement therapy, and for anti-smoking enforcement cost £11,981,712; and £5,428,523 was distributed around the various Trust areas.
