£300K road improvement scheme gets under way at Galgorm Road

A £300,000 road improvement scheme at Galgorm Road in Ballymena is now underway.

A TransportNI spokesperson said: “The scheme on the A42 Galgorm Road from Sourhill Road to Galgorm village will provide 0.8 kilometres of new asphalt road surface and also include the construction of a new footway from Galgorm Castle to the Sourhill Road. Work began on Monday, August 15 and is scheduled for completion by mid October.

“While local access will be maintained, to help ensure the safety of road users and contractors temporary traffic management arrangements and diversionary routes will be in place.

“TransportNI has carefully programmed the works operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise any inconvenience to the public, however drivers should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the area. The planned scheme is subject to favourable weather conditions.”

Welcoming the project, Infrastructure Minister Chris Hassard said: “This significant investment will improve one of the busiest road networks within Ballymena. The improvements will serve the local community and visitors to the area for many years to come.”
