Arch opened as part of Jubilee celebrations

HILLSBOROUGH’S new arch was opened and dedicated as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The event was attended by local lodges and bands who took part in a ‘Banner on a dander’ as they paraded through the village to the new arch.

The short act of worship was led by Worshipful Bro. the Rev. Alistair Smyth, Deputy Grand Master, and the arch was opened by the Most Worshipful Bro. Edward Stevenson, Grand Master, Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland.

Also taking part were Bro. Derek Crone, Worshipful District Master of Hillsborough District LOL 19; Bro Eric Leathem, Deputy District Master of Hillsborough District LOL No 19; Bro. Robert Mitchell, Foreman of Committee, Hillsborough District LOL No 19; Bro Sam Walker, Deputy County Grand Master, Co Down and the new Mayor of Lisburn Alderman William Leathem.

Ballymacarrett Defenders Flute Band led the praise. Lord Arthur Hill Memorial LOL No 144 won the prize for ‘best turned out lodge’.
