Area WI holds Spring meeting

THE Spring meeting of the Londonderry area of the Women's Institute took place in Faughanvale Hall on April 27, at 7.30pm.

Members were present from Drumahoe, Claudy, Culmore, Gransha and Eglinton.

Chairman Sarah Coll, of Claudy WI, welcomed all present, especially federation chairman Mrs Ethel Patterson, executive member Irene Boggs, and special guests from Terredremond WI, also from Moville and Taughboyne ICAs. Rollcall was taken and minutes of the last area meeting were read.

After greetings from headquarters brought by Ethel Patterson, reports on the activities of the sub-committees were given. A comprehensive report of the current year’s activities was given by Eglinton WI.

The guest speaker for the evening, Ms Anita Robinson was introduced and her amusing and informative talk was much enjoyed by all.

A vote of thanks to Anita was proposed by Culmore WI.

After supper, provided by Gransha WI, some lively and most enjoyable entertainment was performed by Drumahoe WI.

Mrs Ethel Patterson then presented awards for the various competitions, eg floral, art, baking, craft, poetry and photography.

A general vote of thanks to all who participated in the successful evening was proposed by Claudy WI.

After the singing of ‘The Countrywoman’s Song’, the meeting came to a close.
