Arm broken in crash

When he crashed his grandmother’s car, which resulted in a girl getting a broken arm in three places, a young Portadown man did not know he was not insured.

Stephen Duke (19), Granville Road, admitted three motoring offences last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

He was fined £250, ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy and given six points for driving without insurance on May 15 this year.

He was also fined £100 for taking the car without the consent of the owner and £120 for driving without due care and attention.

As a new driver the imposition of the six points will mean that his licence will be revoked and he will have to sit the driving test again.

The court heard that a report was made by someone that an accident had happened at the Seagoe Church at 12.30am. It was reported that their daughter had been in the car and had received an injured arm which was broken in three places. It was believed the driver was not insured. Police spoke to the vehicle owner and it was confirmed he did not have permission to use it and was not insured.
