Armed Forces Day

CARRICK is to have the honour of hosting Northern Ireland’s major events to mark Armed Forces Day (June 25) 2011.

The final programme will see the skies, sea and land in full use with the castle the backdrop for the military pageantry.

Alderman Jim McClurg, the newly elected Mayor, said, “I am thrilled that Northern Ireland’s Armed Forces Day will focus on our Borough and I know that the people of Carrickfergus will roll out the red carpet for servicemen and women and their families, friends and supporters from throughout Ireland.

“We have a proud and long-standing military history in Carrickfergus and Armed Forces Day is now part of that tapestry. We welcome this chance to show our support for the men and women who are working tirelessly around the world on our behalf often in hugely dangerous circumstances.”
