Armed Forces Day traffic warning issued

motorists are warned of considerable disruption in Carrick on Saturday during Forces Day events.

The PSNI emphasises that traffic should avoid the centre of the town between midday and 7pm - a park and ride facility will be available from Woodburn playing fields.

A parade through the town between midday and 1pm will mean police diversions will be in place at the following locations: Albert Road/Lancasterian Street; Antrim Street/High Street; Joymount/Link Road; Link Road/Marine Highway; Marine Highway/Quay Lane; Irish gate roundabout.

The planned timetable of events is: parade of veterans, 12noon; helicopter flypast, 12 noon; Tornado flypast, 1.00pm; band concert, 1.15pm; Sea Cadets display 3.00pm; Beating of the Retreat, 5.30pm.

The Mayor, Alderman Jim McClurg, said: “It should be a memorable occasion as the town flies the flag for Norhtern Ireland in this nationwide tribute.”

Spectators can look out for a number of all day attractions too including a visit by HMS Pursuer, military vehicles from Afghanistan and free entry to Carrickfergus Castle.
