Armed forces flag raised at LaganValley Island

THE Armed Forces Flag has been raised at Lagan Valley Island to recognise the beginning of Armed Forces Week, culminating in a special day on Saturday June 30.

The Flag was raised by Lieutenant Colonel Nic Ilic, Commanding Officer at Thiepval Barracks in the presence of the Mayor, Alderman William Leathem, elected members and representatives of the Army, the Royal Navy and the British Army.

Speaking at the event the Mayor said: “This week we remember those who are overseas in Afghanistan and pray for a safe and speedy return home. We especially remember those who will never be returning home and the grieving families who are left behind.

“The Act of Flying the Armed Forces Flag demonstrates our City’s unfaltering support for its Armed Forces, their families and our veterans as they serve their Country in difficult and dangerous times,” said Alderman Leathem.
