Armoy man fined after collision

AN Armoy man has been fined £150 and given three penalty points for driving without due care and attention.

At North Antrim Magistrates Court in Coleraine last Wednesday it was heard Patrick Joseph McAuley (22), of Coolkeeran Road, committed the offence at the junction of the Kilraughts Road and Boyland Road near Ballymoney on November 14 last year.

The court was told a person in another vehicle was hurt when a collision occurred.

The injured party had been making a manoeuvre at the junction when the vehicle was struck by a van driven by McAuley.

The defendant told police he could not see the other vehicle because of bright sunlight.

Defence barrister Francis Rafferty said it was a “classic turning right case” and said McAuley’s vision was hindered by the sun being low in the sky.
