Armoy Primary School welcomes Ugandan teachers

The links, established when Head teacher David Dunlop visited Uganda several years ago with the Fields of Life charity, have grown as Armoy Primary School work hand in hand with teachers and pupils and also help to improve the quality of teaching in the school in Lira, northern Uganada.

Head teacher David Dunlop explained: “I have been to Uganada twice through Fields of Life, helping to build schools and work on clean water projects.

“The charity then wanted to create partnerships with schools to help teachers and so a link was established.

“One of our teachers Marina McKeown and teaching assistant Suzanne Reynolds spent two weeks in Uganada, living and working in the community, holding workshops and various activities within the school.

“The visit by Susan and Violet is the return visit as we continue to build on the relationships we have established. They have settled in really well to Armoy Primary School although they are finding it very cold and rather quiet in comparison to Kampala. They have noticed how well behaved our children are and also the freedom they have compared with their children.

“We also sponsor children and raise money for schools as Fields of Life aims to improve the quality of teaching and the aim is to hold skype classrooms, linking the two schools at the same time.”
