Armoy Summer Scheme back on track!

Armoy Summer Scheme kick starts on Monday of next week and continues until the evening before the annual Motor Bike races on Thursday 26th.

Lots of new people with ideas are working to make this annual summer scheme as successful as other years.

The Scheme is a genuine cross-community event which is made possible by the co-operation and goodwill of many local volunteers. This has been the case now for many years.

And this year there is a bit of an international flavour as Corrymeelea have kindly offered the expertise of three of their volunteers to run a day for the younger age group. The organisers will welcome to Armoy Anna from Sweden, Kelly from Cameeron and Stevie from Northern Ireland.

The programme is presently being finalised and application forms will be available in the shops by mid week. Then actual registration will take place in Tilly Molloy’s on Saturday 14th July from 10 am.

This registration prior to commencement of programme is to allow staff and volunteers to make plans for different age groups and to permit time to check re medical, health issues.

Armoy Community Association are grateful to all those who are making themselves available to lend a hand this year. Committee member, Gerry Burns, commented: “It’s great when people put their heads together and pool their expertise – there are loads of possibilities. We would still like a few more men on board – if that is possible”?

According to Gerry, the word of the local Press is still powerful – someone from Lisburn who has recently graduated in Media Studies would just love to get experience of working on the Video project in Armoy as promoted through this paper! He realises it would help his CV and maybe just tip that future job interview in his favour.

So you too may wish to volunteer to gain experience in whatever capacity – now is the time! Don’t leave it to next year. If interested then the contact e mail is [email protected]. or Gerry Burns 207 51032.
