Arrest made after bottle of tonic wine thrown at police car

A male was arrested in Carrick yesterday after a bottle was thrown through the rear windscreen of a police vehicle.

The incident occurred in the Birches area as officers responded to a call from a member of the public.

Appealing for information, a police spokesperson said: “Unfortunately while assisting the community, someone saw fit to throw a bottle of tonic wine through the rear windscreen of the police vehicle.

“Officers spoke to a male who became abusive and aggressive. Well as these things usually pan out, he ended up being arrested but not before assaulting an officer.

“It’s nice to know people like this are in the minority as their pathetic behaviour and moronic actions not only took a police vehicle out of service, but took two police officers off the streets for a number of hours!

“If you witnessed what happened in the area of the Birches around 4.30pm or shortly after, then please give us a call on 101, quoting reference 773 20/01/19.”
