Arrest made over church heating oil theft

A 29-year-old man was arrested by police investigating the theft of heating oil from a church near Moneymore.

On Thursday 24 May police received a report that oil had been stolen from the church at Ballygoney. Subsequently police stopped a car and arrested the driver on suspicion of theft and going equipped for theft.

The car was seized and the man was later bailed ending further enquiries.

In a separate incident, a sat nav and a purse have been stolen from a car at Forthglen, Orritor Road on Sunday night.

Police are advising local people not to leave valuables in unattended cars.

“Even if you are parking outside your own home, always remove all valuables at night and lock all doors,” said Con Paul Wilson, the Crime Prevention Officer.
