Paul Christopher Withers (48), whose address was given as Sloan Street, Lurgan, was fined £100 last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for simple drunk on April 17 this year.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that just after 10pm police saw a heavily intoxicated man sitting on the pavement at Church Place in Lurgan.

Withers was speaking incoherently and was unable to stand upright by himself.

Due to the traffic at the time he was arrested for being simple drunk.

A solicitor for Withers said he was highly intoxicated and was taken into custody for his own safety.

She added that he had long standing issues with alcohol consumption.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said Withers had not given any trouble to the police or anyone else.
