Arrests follow ‘race hate crime’

Three arrests were made and a 19-year-old man was due to appear before court on Monday in connection with the incident around 3.30am on Sunday at Carnany Park.

Two others were released pending the preparation of a report for the Public Prosecution Service.

Police say they received a report windows were smashed in a house and a male assaulted a resident and that initially people in the area reported that a knife was used. However, no knife was recovered.

It is understood police did recover a plank of wood with nails in it.

When police arrived at the scene, they were obstructed by a number of people who came from a nearby house.

A 19-year-old man was arrested for assault, possession of an offensive weapon and criminal damage. Two other males were arrested for public order offences and assault on police.
