It was spotted by police in the Doagh Road area of Newtownabbey just before 8.45am this morning and a police pursuit occurred. Shortly after, the stolen car collided with two other cars on the Station Road, causing disruption to traffic in the Shore Road area.

It is not believed that anyone was seriously injured in the collision.

Sergeant Brian Lane said: “Once the collision occurred, the driver of the stolen car got out and made off on foot. This man was pursued by officers on foot, and while crossing the Shore Road he tried to get into an occupied black hatchback car nearby which was being driven towards Carrickfergus. The car got away and the man was arrested a short time later.

“I would appeal to the two people that are believed to have been in the black hatchback, or anyone who may know anything about this incident at all, to contact Newtownabbey Police Station on the non emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111,” he added.
