Arson attack on Cookstown commercial premises

Police have appealed for information following an arson attack on commercial premises in Cookstown last night, Wednesday.

The fire, which took place in the Church Street area, was reported to police shortly after 9.30pm.

It is understood scorch damage was caused to a door shutter at the property.

Local PSNI Sergeant O’Neill said: “I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact Police at Cookstown on the non-emergency number 101. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said a quantity of rubbish was on fire.

“One Fire Appliance from Cookstown Fire Station were deployed to the scene of a quantity of rubbish which had extinguished upon arrival of Firefighters”, continued the NIFRS spokesman.

“It is believed slight smoke damage was caused to business premises located near to the rubbish. The incident finished at 10:16pm and is being treated as a deliberate fire.”
