Arsonists strike at Ballyclare church

A MINDLESS arson attack which caused serious damage to Ballyclare Presbyterian Church could have destroyed the entire building, it has been claimed.

The Fire Service said crews attended the blaze just before midnight on Thursday (September 23) after a fire was started deliberately in the kitchen of the Doagh Road property.

The kitchen was completely gutted, but firefighters managed to prevent the blaze from spreading to the rest of the building.

The Boys' Brigade had just finished for the night and leaders had locked the church moments before the blaze was started.

Police are investigating the attack and have described it as "malicious".
