Art work installed in Hillsborough village

Alderman Allan Ewart, Chairman of the Council’s Economic Development Committee, explained: “The former Borough Offices at The Square is a very prominent building in Hillsborough, and we felt that it would benefit from some visual enhancement.

“The “wraparound” graphic design depicts aspects of our local tourist attractions and we are delighted with the eye-catching style captured by the designer.”

He continued: “From The Square you can see the famous Hillsborough Fort; the Courthouse, home to one of our Tourist Information Centres, and the characteristic Georgian architecture in this charming village.

“We receive tens of thousands of visitors to the village each year and we want to play to our tourism product strengths.

“The graphic wrap enhances the area around The Square. It is hoped that measures such as this will benefit local businesses and afford visitors and residents with a more pleasant outlook.”

Councillor Jenny Palmer, Chair of the Environmental Services Committee, said: “The environmental enhancement of the village is important because we want it to look its best.

“As a local resident I think it’s much better to see things neat and tidy and this wrap together with this seasons floral displays achieves this by brightening up the Square.

“We want the area to look as good as possible and perform as well as possible. Hillsborough village is famed for its magnificent floral displays which have given the City of Lisburn so many accolades over the years. “I am looking forward to the Britain in Bloom judges coming to the village, in the competition’s 50th year, as we Go for Gold in this national floral competition organised by the Royal Horticultural Society and I look forward to their comments.”
