Stephen Carter, whose wife was a donor and who has been an enthusiastic campaigner for organ donation, carried out the unveiling. The event also involved 40 P6 and P7 children from the choir from St Mary’s on the Hill Primary School in Glengormley who performed three songs including one they sang recently with the 3 Tenors.

Mary McAfee, Organ Donation Specialist Nurse for the Causeway area, said: “Those families who have consented to donate their loved ones organs have transformed the lives of other people and we felt they deserved recognition. One person can save the lives of up to seven people through organ donation but we still need more people to have the conversation with their loved ones”.

They artwork depicts 3D doves in pastel colours and includes words and phrases by donor families to honour the fact that they have transformed lives through the gift of organ donation.
