Asda staff take lead in Ballyclare community clean

After calling on the community to nominate areas in need of attention and to take part in the week-long project, Six Mile Water River Park was chosen as the target area for a community clean-up.

The volunteers from Asda were joined by local school pupils and teachers, business owners and Mayor Victor Robinson at the ‘Big Litter Pick’ clean-up on Tuesday, September 11.

Asda Ballyclare Community Life Champion, Emma Chesters said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who nominated areas for us to target and those who joined us on our Big Litter Pick at Six Mile Water River Park. We were delighted to have a great turnout including the Mayor of Newtownabbey, Victor Robinson, teachers and pupils from Fairview Primary School and members of the local business community such as Lorrainne McConnell from Joli and Philip Clarke from Homestyle Blinds and Interiors.

“We hope what we’re doing will make a difference. We should be proud of where we live and work and make it an attractive, safe and clean place to be a part of.”

Alderman Robinson added: “There was a really good turnout and it was great to see so many local school kids there. The whole thing was really worthwhile and it is great to see a big retailer like Asda getting involved in something like this.”

Asda’s ‘Big Litter Pick’ is a UK-wide initiative organised as part of the company’s Community Life programme of work within local communities.
