Asda to launch community centre

Asda Larne is opening up a dedicated space for local community groups to use at its Redlands Road store.

The new community centre is open to not-for-profit organisations that require meeting space to improve the quality of people’s lives locally. It is part of the store’s Community Life scheme, which was launched at the end of March.

And Asda is calling on groups to come forward and sign up. Those eligible include schools, skills trainers, homework clubs, health clubs, neighbourhood watch, teaching courses and community police events.

Store manager Darren Cochren said: “We are opening up our training room at no cost because we realise that having a space to sit down and meet is becoming increasingly harder for not-for-profit organisations. We’ll be keeping an events calendar on our community life notice board so people are aware of the bigger events and those which are open to all.”

There is no cost to the organisation and there is no requirement for anyone using the space to shop at the store.

Darren added: “We require eight weeks notice of a booking and evidence of public liability insurance, which most groups should have. Our community champion will act as host for the group but other than that we will simply be there if they need us – it really is their space to use.”
