Assaulted police at a takeaway

Jamie Taylor, whose address was given to the court as Carrickblacker Road, Portadown, admitted disorderly behaviour and assaulting a police constable on August 16 last year.

For each offence he was given 200 hours community service.

The case had been adjourned from a previous court so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.

The court heard police received a report of someone carrying a bottle of Buckfast causing a disturbance inside the King Kebab in Bridge Street, Portadown.

When police arrived Taylor was outside and told them to ‘f—k away off’.

He was highly intoxicated and was told to walk home or get a taxi but he shouted ‘f—k Isis’.

Taylor tried to get back into the premises but a police officer stood in the door and the defendant pushed the officer in the chest.

Mr Richard Monteith, representing the defendant, said that at the outset Taylor had been charged with a threat to kill.

He added that he contested that charge and on the day of the contest the prosecution offered no evidence and sentencing was adjourned for a pre-sentence report.

Mr Monteith said that Taylor appreciated custody was a real possibility but he had co-operated with probation and the report was particularly helpful.

He added that there was a gap in the defendant’s record and he was willing to engage in any of the community options.

Mr Monteith said the whole thing had been captured on CCTV and it was obvious that Taylor was very, very intoxicated.
