Isadora Silva, Bluestone Hall, was given suspended prison sentences last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

The court heard that on May 5 last year police were tasked to deal with two common assaults which had taken place in the Ashburn Hotel’s nightclub.

The first assault happened on the dance floor where Silva pulled the hair of the injured party and punched her on the head a number of times causing bumps and bruises.

The second assault took place later in the smoking area. This time Silva punched the victim in the face and kicked her on the legs. There were bruises to the legs and there was a cut to the injured party’s eye.

Silva denied the offence and claimed she was acting in self-defence. She had no record.

Sentencing in the case was adjourned from a previous court so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.

Mr Pat Vernon, representing the defendant, said all parties had been out for the night and all had drink taken.

He added that it was a typical packed nightclub and people were bumping into each other. Words were spoken and events escalated.

Mr Vernon said that the defendant had not taken drink since this evening and had expressed deep remorse.

Deputy District Judge, Mr John Connolly, said the offences crossed the custody threshold.

For each offence he imposed a custodial sentence of one month but suspended them for 12 months.
