Assembly Election 2016: Cameron elected, Lynch eliminated

Pam Cameron (DUP) has been re-elected in South Antrim.

She was elected during the fifth stage of the count.

After passing the quota Mrs Cameron spoke to the Times and offered her gratitude to all those who supported her.

She said: “I must offer sincere thanks to the people of south Antrim who have put their trust in me for the second time.

“I am deeply grateful to you all and I promise not to let you down and to represent you on a day to day basis.

“The last five years have been a steep learning curve and I am ready for the second term. I feel much more confident this time.

“To be elected second has given me huge pleasure and I am overwhelmed by the support and backing.

“Thank you to South Antrim for having trust in me.”

The SDLP’s Roisin Lynch, despite attracting a strong first preference vote, was eliminated after the fifth stage.
