Mr O’ Dowd said: “Speaking earlier this week, Brazilian food giant JBS Director Jerry O’ Callaghan said the company has ‘no intention to start cutting business at all’. I welcome these recent reassurances that they are not seeking job cuts.

Moy Park is a major economic driver both in the local area and beyond and I think it is important that I meet with them to discuss their plans and offer whatever support local elected representatives can offer to the new company.

“Moy Park employees will be understandably concerned when the company they have invested their work and skills in to, is bought over. They too deserve to be reassured that their jobs are secure.”

Concluding Mr O’ Dowd said: “It is vitally important we nurture local and foreign investment in our economy. The purchase by JBS of Moy Park is a major investment by the company and I want to ensure they are made welcome and that their plans will continue to see employment and investment secured in this area.”
