Athlete attacked woman in home

AN athlete has pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman in her Waterside home last year

Ciara Fraiser, of Dorman Court, pleaded guilty to assaulting a female on March 31, 2009.

Londonderry Magistrates Court heard the 30 year-old had been drinking all day and after leaving a Waterside bar entered the injured party's home without permission.

When the woman asked Fraiser to leave she pulled her hair, knocked her to the ground and began kicking and punching her.

Fraiser was arrested and during police interview she admitted pulling the woman's hair and entering her home without permission.

A defence solicitor told the court the women had been friends for five years, but had fallen out. She claimed that Fraiser had gone round to the woman's house to make amends and an altercation began.

The solicitor revealed that the defendant was an athlete for City of Derry Spartans and the incident was "totally out of character."

Adjourning sentencing for a probation pre-sentence report, District Judge Barney McElholm said if Fraiser had any previous record he would have given her an immediate custodial sentence.

He said it was a case where she invaded another person’s home, assaulted them and had "shown little in the way of remorse".
