ATO called to industrial unit in Whiteabbey following discovery of suspicious object

Army Technical Officers, police and fire crews were tasked to the Glenville Road in Whiteabbey on Thursday night (May 19) following an incident at a disused industrial unit.

At around 9pm, the PSNI and Fire and Rescue Service received a report of a small fire on a mezzanine floor in premises at the Glenville Industrial Estate.

Police officers, as well as three fire crews from Glengormley and Belfast, were tasked to the scene. Upon attendance, a suspicious object was noted and ATO were called in.

“ATO attended and later declared the object to be nothing untoward. No evacuations or road closures were implemented,” a PSNI spokesman said.

Firefighters using hosereel jets and breathing apparatus dealt with the fire at the property, which it’s believed was started deliberately.
