Attempt made to remove Jubilee flag

Police in Waterside have appealed for information following a report of criminal damage at the DUP offices on Limavady Road.

A PSNI spokeswoman said that at approximately 1.45pm on Monday, Police received a report of damage having been caused to the porch of the premises and appealed for anyone who witnessed this incident, or who has any information, to contact Police at Waterside station.

DUP MLA, William Hay, said it appeared that an attempt had been made to remove a jubilee flag that had been hung from a second floor window.

“Quite a bit of damage has been done to the porch. We had a banner flying on the second floor to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and it looks as if someone has tried to climb up and take it down.

“It is sad that we have two communities in the city and each has the right to celebrate their own culture and get on with their life, but there are those out there who think this is not the case and see to try and cause damage,” he said.

Mr Hay said that the DUP had already begun the process of getting estimates for the repair work.
