Attempted mugging over motorbike

A MAN was left with cuts and bruises to his face and treated in hospital following an attempted mugging by masked robbers in Lisburn on Sunday evening.

The 19-year-old victim was approached at the junction of Grove Street and Grand Street just before 8pm by two males on a scooter wearing balaclavas.

The men assaulted him and attempted to take his motorbike which was nearby.

The victim struggled with the would-be robbers, one of whom may have been armed with a firearm.

The pair made off empty handed.

The victim was treated in hospital for cuts and bruises to his head and face.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed what happened to contact them. They are also keen to hear from the driver of a silver Mondeo understood to have stopped and offered assistance to the victim. Witnesses can contact Lisburn CID on 0845 600 8000.
