Attempted robbery condemned

A local political representative has hit out at those responsible for an attempted robbery in Carrickfergus on Saturday.

At around 6:20pm two males, one carrying a hammer, entered the Victoria Road premises and demanded cigarettes and money from the member of staff.

The duo, who were wearing hooded tops and had their faces covered, made off on foot empty handed. The staff member was not injured during the incident.

Calling on anyone with information to contact the police, PUP representative, Jim McCaw said: “The Progressive Unionist Party totally condemns this savage act against members of the community, who unlike these parasites are doing a job to put food on the table for their families. Anyone who has any information, no matter how small, should contact the PSNI.”

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact detectives in Larne on 101 quoting reference number 1008 of 19/11/16. Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
