Gerry McAfee, of McAfee Auctions, says he is genuinely excited about the unique sale, which will be held in his Ballymoney salerooms on Friday, March 20 at 6.30pm.

“It’s an amazing collection of thousands of items rounded off into approximately 650 lots and representing the widest variety of World War I and World War II and later war memorabilia,” Gerry told The Times.

“And is the largest certainly for us to offer and maybe the largest collection ever offered in Northern Ireland.”

The auction will include everything from army and naval jackets to uniforms, caps berets, badges and medals, real guns, daggers and swords.

There’s also walkie talkies, field glasses, mess tins, map carriers, telephones, sleeping bags, army boots, German collectors plates, shell cases, bunting, flags and books.

Of particular local interest is a bronzed figurine of Robert Quigg, the Bushmills man who received the Victoria Cross for his ‘Most Conspicuous Bravery’ at the Battle of the Somme.

Viewing begins on Wednesday and Thursday, March 18-19 from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 8.30pm and on the day of the sale from 3.30pm.
