Auction for St Columb’s

LOTS of items of great interest and value will come under the hammer at the St Columb’s Cathedral autumn auction which is being held tomorrow evening, Thursday, in the White Horse Hotel, Campsie, beginning at 7.30 pm.

This interesting event has been organised by the Social Group of St Columb’s Cathedral, led by Daphne Gallick, to help raise funds for the Restoration Appeal of the city’s oldest and most historic church.

The novel fund raiser will include the sale of some original paintings together with some important prints of paintings, some antiques, lots of other items including cut glass and china, some antiques, some vouchers from hotels/restaurants, some bottles of wine - and even a cuddly toy!

The auction is being held to make up for the fact that it was not possible to hold the annual Summer Fayre this year due to the refurbishment of the Cathedral Car Park where the Fayre normally takes place.

The Dean of Derry, Dr William Morton, has commended all the tremendously hard work which has gone into this event and wishes to thank all who have generously contributed items for sale and given donations for this very good cause.

The Dean explained that the money raised will be used to help reduce the parish contribution to the restoration of the Cathedral which has just been completed at a cost of almost £4 million, work which simply could not have been done, said the Dean, but for the generous grant aid from the International Development Fund through the NI Tourist Board and the NI Environment Agency.

“This promises to be a really good event for the Cathedral,” said Dr Morton, who added, “and, most especially, it will be an evening of good fun and craic!” The Dean extends a warm invitation to all who would like to come along.
