Ava’s special Christmas gift for Gillaroo residents

A GENEROUS Larne youngster brought smiles to the faces of residents at Gillaroo Lodge Nursing Home this Christmas, when she came bearing a unique gift.

Ava Taylor, a pupil at Larne and Inver Primary School, won an impressive-looking snowman cake at the school’s annual Christmas Craft Fair.

And instead of keeping the festive cake for her own family to enjoy during the Christmas season, the seven-year-old decided it was more blessed to give than receive and chose to donate it to Gillaroo Lodge, where family friend Sadie McLean is a resident.

Kate Robinson, nurse manager of Gillaroo Lodge said: “We were really touched by Ava’s generosity. The elderly residents in the home just love to see young visitors, and the fact that Ava gave this beautiful cake for them all to enjoy was a source of great delight to them.

“It was particularly appropriate as our residents, their relatives and our staff had just made a significant donation of gifts and cash to the Downtown Radio Mission Christmas appeal for disadvantaged local children.

“It was lovely that, having given so generously to others, the residents themselves were remembered by someone from that younger generation.”
